Since the time of Solomon’s Temple in Jerusalem, and even earlier in Egypt, certain spiritual secrets have been passed down through the centuries in the hidden symbolic practices of Freemasonry. In his book The Hidden Life in Freemasonry, C. W. Leadbeater talks about the three paths of life and death. These three paths he refers to as the path of the moon, the path of the sun and the path of fire.
